I'm not bad in math....I am just too young to really have used any of
that.  When I was in elementary school, we were learning about computers
(had them in the classroom in 5th grade), the rest of school involved
calculators.  I was born in 1972.....

I think Henry Ford museum might have one, though..... maybe I could see one
there

I used a little round slidrule thing when I was a kid - now I'm awaiting my HP 49g+ to be released so my pre-order can ship

Don't waste your money on the Alienwares. Get the same thing as the Area 51 from Sager. Got my sager5660 from pctorque. Expected the worse. But it's been great. OSX is pokey. Mac people just don't want to admit it. I know. I'm one of them. I work on one 5 days a week.

Also, don't hesitate to send the mac in for service if it's still under warranty.

pokey? it is half baked for sure backward compatability and all that...

But pokey?

I'll take a look at Sager though and maybe I'll go that way for myself.
Sony GR systems look pretty sweet also...

Don't waste money on an expensive Mac. If you want a *nix machine, then either buy or build a PC and load it with Linux. If you want your PC case to look pretty like the Mac cases are, then either buy a pretty PC case or PC with a pretty case or decorate your own PC's case. To save even more money, go for Athlon chips instead of Pentiums.

Money isn't an issue when it comes time for me to purchase something I want and no that is not braging, it is just a fact. It is the reason I work, to purchase the things me and my family need and at times the things we want want. Thats the reason I am waiting before I do anything in a large way, my son only has his Powerbook because it was put on my credit card and he is making payments (supposed to be anyway)...

So in turn I can not make any major purchases for a bit...
Though if he doesn't start keeping up with his payments I will not need to go buy one

But I understand what you saying as I've a number of boxes and that is the main manner in which I have gone about putting them together. The hardest thing I keep running up against is purchasing everything all over again in MAC format

I've been kicking around putting together a new P4 system and taking the rest of what I would have spent on the 17.1 G4 powerbook or Dual desktop and getting a large plasma screen or HDV screen.

You know he actually asked about going down to the Acura Dealer and having my wife and I co-sign for a car while he is home on leave? HA! N...O...T

kids...
hmmm that reminds me, need a co-sign for student loans...

anyway, I LOVE THE MAC LAPTOP!!! I never really wanted the 17 inch (too big) but it had the back light behind the keys that I really wanted.

Now the 15 inch one has it so my choice is clearer than ever...

By the way, I went to the Alienware site and I wasn't impressed. I thought they had all sorts of case designs but they only really have 2.

Personally, I would have gone with a Dell XPS or configured a Dell mini-tower (it looks really cool).

-----------

Anyway, when does the RAM problem come up anyway? While playing a game? Running a program? Just take it back... got to be an internal thing. How is the virtual memory holding up?

Save some money IP. Go with a Athlon instead.

IP, if you're in the market for an extreme high-end machine, try this place. Water-cooled CPU's at subzero temps. Can you say...fast? Starting at just under $5,000 with no monitor sucks though...

You can always change a case...quite easy. What is not that easy is making a case completely out of plexiglass.
